Vehicle-to-Grid Demonstration at LA AFB

California Energy Commission staff members and the Secretary of the Air Force Deborah Lee James toured the Los Angeles Air Force Base this week. LA AFB has the world’s largest vehicle-to-grid demonstration project supported in part by Energy Commission funding. At its August business meeting the Energy Commission provided additional research funds for the project to assess the economic and technical viability of transforming military base tactical vehicles to plug-in electric drive vehicles as part of an energy storage system. Vehicles charged during the day can provide electricity to the grid at night or when demand is high. The recent grant is for $1.2 million.
